The Third International Conference on Safe Production and Use of Nanomaterials NANOSAFE 2012 was held in Grenoble, France, on 13-15 November 2012 in the Maison MINATEC Nanotechnology Cluster. This Conference was organized by the European Commission, CEA (France) and French Ministry of Research.
The goal of the Conference was to introduce the INERIS Nanosafety Platform towards a nanosecured facility in order to support a safe and sustainable development of nanotechnologies in SMEs and large industries as well as research activities trough the development of international partnerships. The emphasis as well has been made on the following topics: exposure assessment; detection and identification; toxicology; environmental interactions; protection technology; industrial production and so on.
Dr. Georgios Katalagarianakis, European Commission, DG Research, attended and underlined that in the current absence of reliable data about toxicity and threshold limit values, it is a real challenge to setup safe experiments in which nanomaterials on purpose put into high energetic processes, like the generation of dust explosion, dispersion in air or liquid for toxicity and environmental studies.
